2024 NW Ohio Leadership Retreat

2024 Northwest Ohio Youth Leadership Retreat

The 2024 Northwest Ohio Youth Leadership Retreat was a powerful and engaging event for current and former foster youth ages 14–24. Hosted in partnership with OHIO YAB, ACTION Ohio, The Ohana Project, Lucas County Children Services, Allen County Children Services, and the Bridges NW Regional Coordinator, the retreat brought together young people from across Northwest Ohio to build leadership skills, connect with peers, and share their voices.

Throughout the day, participants took part in dynamic workshops focused on the national and international foster care youth and alumni movement, strategic sharing, personal leadership styles, and the importance of Youth Advisory Boards. Youth also learned how to create their own local boards and discovered opportunities to influence change at a statewide level.

The retreat was supported by generous sponsors, including Meijer, Urban Air, Costco Wholesale, Balance, Directions Credit Union, Texas Roadhouse, Libbey, Biggby Coffee, Target, and Buckeye Broadband. Their support helped make the event a memorable and meaningful experience for everyone involved.

The Ohana Project was proud to play a role in this impactful day—helping to uplift the next generation of leaders in Ohio’s foster care community.

In Hawaii, Ohana means family and that their village is an extension of that family. The Polynesians also believe that no child should be left behind. That sometimes it takes a village to raise a child. At The Ohana Project we share those same beliefs. It is our mission to give youth aging out of foster care the same opportunity of success as any other child. A project we believe can only be accomplished as a community.
